Postdoctoral position in materials science (thin films)

Contract type:  Temporary

Description:

Within the context of the EU funded project INERA “Research and Innovation Capacity Strengthening of ISSP-BAS in Multifunctional Nanostructures” (http://www.inera.org), the Institute of Solid State Physics (ISSP) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) is looking for a Postdoctoral fellow in materials science (thin films), responsible for Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD).

ISSP is a leading Bulgarian research institute in the field of solid matter research and its applications into multifunctional nanostructures. The INERA is an important means for ISSP to rapidly increase its human and technological capacities, to reinforce its local networks and to deepen its partnerships on a European scale. It will mainly consist in an upgrade of equipment, scientific mobility trainings in leading EU research centres, life-long trainings, partnership deepening and dissemination activities.

The work will be focused on the fields of thin film deposition by PECVD method and applications in non-linear optics, nanotechnologies, optoelectronics, and new materials and will require intense interaction with other experimental research groups. It will involve:

  • developing and conducting laboratory experiments in a team environment via strong collaboration with members and colleagues in a goal-driven development effort;
  • preparation of different multifunctional thin film and hybrid structures, nanostructures, nanocomposites, and heterostructures;
  • identifying technology and product related know-how and intellectual property developed in the frame of the project;
  • presenting ideas and results in effective technical presentations, preparing project reports, writing technical papers and contributing to research proposals.

The Postdoctoral position is limited to 15.07.2016.

An internationally competitive salary, dependent on experience, will be offered.

Requirements:

Ph.D. in physics, materials science, chemistry, engineering or related discipline with emphasis on novel thin film materials and structures, processing, and testing.

Experience and in-depth knowledge with thin film preparation techniques, optical and electrical characterization, micro- and nanofabrication equipment is strongly desired. Experience in performing experimental basic and device-oriented research in optics, information storage and other relevant fields is a plus.

Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
